##      - added a Preview box in the ACP, many thanks to eviL<3 for allowing me to use his code for bbcode.php

Edit: Please wait with the installation of v1.1.0 as I had a bug report. Whenever ' is entered in the preview, a /' will show up.

Hi,

Ive just come across this amazing addon of yours which Ive been trying to get installed into my board.  Ive gone through all the instructions as best Ican and didnt come across any errors what so ever.  I am seeying the the announcement boxes for guest and members.  When I enter the admin panel and click on announcements to edit the boxes I get a blank page.  No errors or anything.  I can edit the text through phpmyadmin and it works that way, just not through the admin panel.

Ive tried to trace back and see where I could have gone wrong, but unfortunatly I cannot find anything =/

If someone could please help me look where my problem would be I would really appreciate it.

Please note Im using a non-standard theme for my board, but I did test it with subsilver also, and am getting the same result.

thanks in advance =)

edit: Just wanted to add that I tried installing it manually as well as using EASYMOD.  Both times no errors at all were produced after the installation and seem to be working except I cannot access the admin panel section =/

Hi phenam,
that is something I have not come across myself yet...

Is it only the announcements you get a blank page with or others as well?

These files are all in the right places, aren't they? Have you tried reuploading them?

Code: Select all
##   admin/admin_announcement_centre.php
##   templates/subSilver/posting_smilies_announcement_centre_text.tpl
##   templates/subSilver/admin/announcement_centre_config_body.tpl

I have not heard of conflicts with other mods yet either....

Did you download the mod from here or from somewhere else?

Sorry about all these questions but I do not know the answer at the moment. Initially, I thought it might have something to do with your style but as you said it does not work in subSilver either....

Do you have a testboard by any chance where you could set me up with an account and/or ftp access?

p.s. dont forget ur avatar :wink:

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Basically the blank page is only when I try to access the announcements.  I do had the left frame up still showing all the other options in the ACP and can access them as normal.

I initially came across this mod on the phpbb site, and after going through many posts I arrived here where I downloaded it and proceeded to install it. Those three files you mention I have checked and rechecked that they have been copied over.  If I remove them completely and try to access the announcement page as a test I do get errors of missing files.  So Im pretty sure it is working, partly.  I have removed it and reinstalled it a few times making sure everything is going as instructed and I get the same result.

Unfortunatly I dont have a test board =/

My board is pretty heavily modded and I suspect there is a conflict somewhere with another mod, though Im not sure.  Here is a list of all the mods Im using, maybe there is something there that can help identify the problem.

Hi again just letting you know Ive been able to find the offending peice of code which is causing the blank page.

On my test board, I installed all the mods that I use one by one testing your one as I did to see which, if any were causing the problem.  I had installed everything but one.  My forum is for a World of Warcraft guild.  We use a mod called Itemstats which retrieves info from another website to display items and what not.

As soon as I installed it the admin panel went blank as it has on my live board.  The mod requires only minor changes so I quickly traced back and removed the line changes one by one till it worked again.

I hope its ok to display the installation steps of the mod here to show you:

phpBB Installation (Based on phpBB 2.0.17)
==========================================

1. Configuration

Make sure you complete the instructions in 'config.txt' before doing this part.

2. Copying it over

Copy the 'itemstats' folder to the root of your forum installation.

3. PHPBB modifications

Follow the instructions below to modify the phpbb files with data specific to your environment.  This can vary from version to version.  The goal is to inject a call to 'itemstats_parse()' in the location where the forum bbcodes are handled.  In my installation, the main entry point for this is the  bencode_second_pass() function, so I added the call at the beginning of this function.  For the HTML changes, the goal is to have allakhazam.css and Overlib loaded for forum page that will display itemstats.  For simplicity, I put this in the 'overall_healer.tpl' file.  The changes listed below are for the default subSilver template.  If you are using multiple templates for your forum, you will need to apply it to each one.

These changes do not follow any BBCode mod standards.  I tried to do that, but it was too complicated for my taste.  I wanted to make the smallest possible change in the phpbb php code, something that would be easy to fix if a phpbb patch somehow overwrote it somehow.

OPEN
{forum_root}/include/bbcode.php

FIND
define("BBCODE_UID_LEN", 10);

ADD-AFTER
include('./itemstats/phpbb_itemstats.php');

FIND
function bbencode_second_pass($text, $uid)
{
global $lang, $bbcode_tpl;

ADD-AFTER
// Parse text for ItemStats mod
$text = itemstats_parse($text);

SAVE AND CLOSE
{forum_root}/include/bbcode.php

OPEN
{forum_root}/templates/subSilver/overall_header.tpl

FIND
<!-- link rel="stylesheet" href="templates/subSilver/{T_HEAD_STYLESHEET}" type="text/css" -->

ADD-AFTER
<link rel="stylesheet" href="itemstats/templates/itemstats.css" type="text/css">
<script type="text/javascript" src="itemstats/overlib/overlib.js"><!-- overLIB (c) Erik Bosrup --></script>

SAVE AND CLOSE
{forum_root}/templates/subSilver/overall_header.tpl

Its this change in red that is causing the page to go blank.  I can hardly understand what most of the code does in the board, so for me to fix this is quite a challenge.  In fact I dont know where to start hehe.

I really hope its possible to run both mods on my board as they are really useful to the users.  If you can help at all I would really appreciate it =)

Thanks in advance.

Any chance for a link to the mod? I will have a look but cannot guarantee anything... as my coding skills are very limited...

Sorry, I dont have a solution for that as it is calling the bbcode from the admin page.
I think this
include('./itemstats/phpbb_itemstats.php');

is more the problem as I got errors when trying to use it on my local server as if u call it from the admin folder it should be  (I think)
include('./../itemstats/phpbb_itemstats.php');

Until a solution is found you can still use the announcement centre. Unfortunately, preview would need to be disabled for the time being.

You could use the attached file instead, I commented out the preview stuff so this should work, clicking on the preview button should make no difference ...

Sorry I cannot be of any more help at the moment

Code: Select all
##
## 2007-04-08 - Version 1.2.0
##      - added the possibility to use the first or latest post of a forum or topic as announcement text

phenam,
if you are interested in upgrading, you might want to replace the admin_announcement_centre.php file in the download with this file

Howdy Lefty
I love your MOD  :goodideasign:
But i have run into one little problem.

When I try to preview in ACP i get this error
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /www/5gbfree.com/c/w/x/cwxtra/htdocs/forum/includes/template.php(127) : eval()'d code:1) in /www/5gbfree.com/c/w/x/cwxtra/htdocs/forum/includes/functions.php on line 941

I can still post my announcement on the index...just can't preview in ACP. (I have yet to try the other features)

Can you help me correct this??

Cheers,
cwxtra

Hi,
yes, there is temporary fix in the contribution folder until I get to the bottom of this error.

Just replace the admin_announcement_centre.php with the one in the contribution folder.
